About Us

David Weimert

Growing up in Pennsylvania I first started catching snakes when I was a kid just like any boy does. I also had my fare share of turtles, frogs and lizards as well. I didn’t start keeping them as pets until I was much older and even then it was a select few.

My first snake purchase was of course a Ball Python back in 1997. Her name was Ithica (original Ithica). Being Military and having to move to Germany I had no choice but to sell my Herps. That was a long three years.

Upon returning to the States (Texas) my wife at the time “allowed” me to get a Ball Python but only one and that was Ithica (number 2). Needless to say I purchased quite a few more once I got divorced.

My interest grew and my knowledge of Herps expanded as well. By now I owned Chameleons, Geckos, Fire Belly Toads, Amazon Tree Boas, Common Boas, Anacondas, Burmese Pythons, Ball Pythons, Savannah Monitors, Great Plains Rat Snakes, and etc.

In February 2006 I decided I was going to start a Reptile Rescue. I finally came up with a catchy name, Herp Halfway House. During this time period I worked with Killeen Animal Control and numerous Rescues with Adoption Programs.

In August 2007 I met the Love of my life (not a Herp). Brittany Berg and I met doing a deal with our snakes (imagine that). Since then our love has grown along with the amount of Herps we adopted in and out along with our personal collection as well. We have our personal Reptile Vet for exams and treatments. We are also working on our 501 (c) 3 for our Rescue.

I am currently on my 3rd tour to Iraq along with one tour to Kosovo. I am also working on my Associates of Science and Biology.
